Laura Ballesteros is a Film Producer and First Assistant Director with a keen interest in Pre Production. She graduated valedictorian with her master’s in Film Production from Full Sail University and has a bachelor’s degree in Social Media and Journalism from Universidad del Norte (Colombia). She is proficient in Movie Magic Budgeting and Scheduling, Adobe Premiere Pro and Illustrator, and Final Draft. She has experience working on several independent short films as well as an independent feature, 9 Windows (2023), which was shot in a virtual production studio.
Laura is also a writer and director, having created the filminute Legado de Sangre, which explores the African Colombian legacy, and won the M1ni contest of the International Short Film Festival Cine a la Calle 2018 (FICICA). She also wrote, directed, produced, and edited her thesis short film, The Big Chop (2023), a social commentary drama about a woman accepting her natural curly hair.
Her work is dedicated to promoting the representation and participation of women and the LGBTIQ community in the film industry. Laura volunteers as a researcher and content creator in Encuadradas, a web platform for active and collective memory that brings together women filmmakers from the Colombian Caribbean in order to make their work visible. She was part of the team that developed the first virtual museum dedicated to Colombian Caribbean filmmakers, called “Reframing History”.
Laura loves to travel and learn about different cultures in her free time. She is a cat person, a foodie, and enjoys spending time with family and friends. Watching movies and series will always be her favorite activity.
